The Shelter offers 24-hour emergency and transitional services, individualized case management and referral services for men, women, and families in crisis.
On August 27th 2008, MESI moved from it's old location at 831 Leavenworth into the new Caroline Peine Transitional Shelter at 4th and Yuma.
The shelter can now accommodate up to 47 individuals, (almost double the occupancy of our old location).
The shelter has a men's dorm with 12 beds, a woman's dorm with 10 beds, and an entire wing devoted to families.
The shelter offers clients more than a place to stay and to shower. It is a transitional shelter with the goal to not just serve someone for the short term, but to help them get back on their feet by giving them the resources they need to do so.
The shelter offers individualized case management, job and monetary resources, a full kitchen stocked with food, phone usage, personal hygiene products, and a child's play area, and also household furniture and items upon moving out.
The shelter serves over 500 individuals annually and provides 12,000 nights of service, with an average stay of 45 nights.
