Volunteer Opportunities

The Caroline Peine Transitional Shelter offers two different types of volunteer programs, the professional volunteer program and the general volunteer program, and one community service program (for those needing to complete court ordered hours).
All of these programs are a great way to help out the shelter. The Manhattan Emergency Shelter has only 3 full time staff, so we rely heavily on volunteers to help us run the shelter smoothly.

PROFESSIONAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
In the professional volunteer program a volunteer would sign up for a 2-3 hour time slot, and would come on that day and time every week. During their shift they would be trained to answer phones, assist clients and guests, and do various other clerical tasks.
This program is available Monday-Friday from 8-5pm.
This is normally a semester long commitment, but can be flexible.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The general volunteer program has a very flexible schedule. In this program a volunteer would sign up for a 2 hour time slot whenever it is convenient for them. The time slots for this program are Monday-Sunday 9am-8pm. Due to the increased needs of volunteers Monday-Friday 8-5, there is only one slot after 5pm and one on each weekend day.

SIGNING UP
If you are interested in either of these programs please call 785-537-3113, ext. 2 or email volunteer@mesi.kscoxmail.com
